Geoffrey Pope refurbishment
A multi-million pound refurbishment of the Geoffrey Pope building on Streatham Campus, to enhance its research and teaching facilities and support the School’s ambitions to be a leading international centre for research and teaching in biosciences, has been completed.
The new facilities include a fully-operational research suite, three high-quality research facilities, four specialist laboratories to cater for chemical, biochemical and analytical needs, and state-of-the-art aquaria.
The newly transformed Geoffrey Pope building also includes an extended teaching laboratory, 130 desk spaces for postgraduates and a refurbished foyer with networked PCs and Wi-Fi access.
£5million had already been invested in the Geoffrey Pope building to improve the main teaching lab and a section of the research facilities. The additional investment is being made in line with the University Science Strategy, a policy to invest £80million in science over the next three years. The completed Geoffrey Pope refurbishment project provides:
- fully operational BSL3 research suite
- 3 high quality research facilities to BSL2 standard
- 4 specialist laboratories to cater for all chemical, biochemical and analytical needs
- state-of-the-art aquarium
- an extended teaching lab
- improved support facilities to the teaching lab
- flexible school seminar space
- an integrated student support office
- 130 new desk spaces for postgraduates
- 25 new staff offices
- improved access to the building
- a fully refurbished foyer with networked PCs, wi-fi, space to talk and vending facilities
