Progress so far

The Forum

Many sections of the University of Exeter’s flagship £48 million Forum Project have been opened and are already proving popular with students. All three library levels have been transformed into modern, stylish environments as befits a top university. The refurbishment project means it now provides additional cluster PCs and more group and silent study areas, as well as general study areas and office facilities. Meanwhile, the Great Hall Piazza area and new University reception opened in the autumn of 2011. Construction on the rest of the Forum Project is near completion. Once completed, it will also provide a purpose built student services’ centre, 400-seater lecture theatre, and catering spaces, amongst others.

Business School expansion

The £18m investment by the University of Exeter for a new building for the Business School has now been completed.

This project has created additional world-class facilities for research, teaching, learning and social interaction. The expansion will help meet the considerable demand for places.

Our Business School continues to go from strength to strength. It has the highest entry tariff in University and remains the top business school in the UK for student satisfaction.

INTO International Students’ Academic Centre (Stocker Road)

The INTO Academic Centre was completed at the start of 2011 and opened for staff and students in February. This exciting, purpose-built development provides an inspirational mix of facilities that will help deliver a world-class student experience. This stylish, three-storey facility is a sociable, innovative and inspiring addition to the University of Exeter's campus.

It provides state-of-the-art facilities such as flexible teaching spaces, a lecture theatre and a learning resource centre, among others, while the striking glazed climate wall at the front of the building will help provide an exciting environment to study and relax.

Biosciences

A multi-million pound project to create world class facilities for Biosciences has also recently been handed over. The Geoffrey Pope building on the University’s Streatham Campus has benefited from significant investment to enhance its research and teaching facilities. The major refurbishment project will also support the School’s ambitions to be a leading international centre in its field. The new facilities include a fully-operational research suite, three high-quality research facilities, four specialist laboratories to cater for chemical, biochemical and analytical needs, and state-of-the-art aquaria.

Sir Henry Wellcome Building for Mood Disorders Research

The Sir Henry Wellcome Building for Mood Disorders Research was officially launched in March 2012. The £3.6 million building is dedicated to researching treatments for mood disorders such as depression and Bipolar Disorder. It provides state-of-the-art facilities to carry out experimental and applied clinical research into mood disorders.  It provides a centre for psychological research, assessment, treatment and training that aims to benefit all people who suffer from mood disorders. This new clinical research facility houses individual and group treatment rooms, with built-in audiovisual recording.

Birks Grange (UPP Residences)

The redevelopment at Birks Grange was been completed and was officially opened at the start of the Autumn Term with an intimate ceremony for University and UPP representatives with local residents. The new accommodation provides more than 830 bed spaces for students and are modern, bright and vibrant. The accommodation was completed in stages, with the first two blocks opening for students in Autumn of 2010.

Duryard (INTO Residences)

Work started here at the end of October 2009. The first block was completed at the end of 2010, with the first students moving in at the start of the Spring Term. The remainder of the first phase of the development was completed in May 2011 and is now being enjoyed by students. The UPP section of the project got underway in the summer of 2011 and will continue until late summer 2012. Work has been completed on the refurbishment project of Kay House which provides a rehearsal and performance venue for the University's musicians and facilities the wider community.

Lafrowda (UPP Residences)

Work got underway at Lafrowda in March 2010. Two former blocks, L and M were demolished make way for some of the new buildings over the course of the summer of 2010, and the first four residences were finished and opened to mark the start of the Autumn term in 2011. The second phase of the development is now underway, with some further former blocks demolished last summer and the substructures and timber framers for the latest residences now installed.
