The University of Exeter is a member of the 1994 Group of universities. The Group, so called because it was founded in 1994, consists of nineteen internationally renowned research-intensive universities in Britain, who share common aims, standards and values.
The members of the 1994 Group are small and medium-sized universities, built on a human scale. Most are campus universities, offering students purpose-built accommodation, conveniently close to laboratories, libraries and social facilities. Unaffected by the impersonal and bureaucratic culture of very large universities, the 1994 Group offers individual supervision and small group teaching by some of Britain's most distinguished scholars and researchers.
