Awards and league table success
Exeter is a top 20 UK University, according to all four of the main higher education league tables
Each league tables ranks more than 100 UK higher education institutions.
- The Times Good University Guide ranks Exeter in 9th position. It says: ‘Exeter is one of Britain’s most popular universities in terms of first-choice applications, not only in its traditional strong suit, the arts, but increasingly in the sciences and social sciences.’
- This year’s Guardian league table lists Exeter in 13th position out of 117 higher education institutions. It says: ‘One of the lesser-known recipes for happiness is to live in a place where other people choose to go on holiday…Add to that the fact that the Streatham campus is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in the country and that Exeter is rated one of the best universities in the UK for "ents", and it's no wonder that increases in applications far exceed the national average….Exeter has an excellent academic reputation.’
- The Sunday Times rates Exeter in 17th place. It says: Exeter attracts some of the best qualified school-leavers, who continue their academic progress to place the university in the top 10 nationally for the proportion of firsts and 2:1s awarded…Already excellent facilities are being boosted by £270m of investment in the next three years …All this translates into applications rising by 17% this year: Exeter is a university on the up.
- The UK University Guide published in the Independent lists Exeter in 19th place. It says: ‘Student satisfaction, as measured in the National Student Survey, has made its mark on the rankings…The introduction of this measure has helped to consolidate the positions of Oxbridge, St Andrews, Leicester, Loughborough and Exeter as first class universities.’
Exeter scores particularly highly for student satisfaction, completion rates, and for students achieving good honours degrees of 2:1s or firsts. High entry standards and a strong research performance further support Exeter’s top 20 position.

The University has three times been awarded a prestigious Queen's Anniversary Prize. The most recent award was made to a team of scientists who have transformed the lives of hundreds of diabetes sufferers.
This is the second Queen's prize won by a member of staff at the Peninsula Medical School. The Dean, Professor John Tooke, won a Queen's Prize in 1996 also for work on diabetes. It is the third Prize won by the University.

Times Higher Education University of the Year 2007/08
The Award was made in recognition of the University’s efforts to create new educational opportunities in the South West in partnership with a range of other organisations. The University of the Year Award highlights three major educational initiatives which came to fruition in 2007:
- The completion of their studies by students at the University’s Cornwall Campus near Falmouth.
- The completion of their studies by the first cohort of students from the Peninsula Medical School.
- The £14 million Great Western Research project.
The success of these ventures has substantially raised the University’s profile, demonstrated its ability to work with different partners, added significant new academic assets and fuelled growth.
