Cornwall Campus ProjectCornwall Programme Accreditation The University of Exeter is a major player in Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a multi-million pound partnership initiative aimed at expanding higher education opportunities in Cornwall and bringing about a sustainable step change in the development of the Cornish economy. Through CUC, the EU and the UK government have invested £65 million in new higher education facilities in Cornwall. Over £50 million of this investment has been in academic facilities at the new Cornwall campus near Falmouth, also known as the Tremough Campus, which opened in late September 2004. The brand new purpose-built campus, which is shared with University College Falmouth, offers world-class facilities for teaching and research and includes a residential student village. Teaching and research at Tremough currently covers Biosciences, Cornish Studies, English, History, Geology, Geography, Law, Politics, Mining Engineering, Renewable Energy and Theology. An operational plan has been submitted to Brussels for CUC Phase 3. Lobbying is underway to press the case for a substantial share of Convergence funding for CUC projects. This includes Exeter's case for a new Environment and Sustainability Research Institute, and the outcome of the funding bid will be known towards the end of 2008. If successful, the new intake of Phase 3 students will be in 2010 or 2011.
