Quentin read Mathematics at the University of Leeds and subsequently qualified as a Chartered Accountant at Price Waterhouse in London. He spent most of his career as a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company, the global management consultants. There, he specialised in business strategy and corporate finance and was responsible for the firm’s client service to a wide range of well-known global companies in the transport, telecoms, engineering, and professional services sectors. He was also a member of one of the firm’s three global governance committees.

Quentin is now a Director of Woodley Pension Trustees Limited which was set up in 2008 to provide board services to defined benefit pensions schemes. He is an Accredited Professional Pension Trustee. Woodley Trustees focuses on chairing the boards of large pension schemes. Its schemes have aggregate assets in excess of £6 billion and tens of thousands of members across the UK.

Quentin believes strongly in the ability of HE to transform lives and the world we live in. Prior to joining the Council at the University of Exeter he was a Council member at the University of Leeds for 12 years and its Deputy Chair for six, stepping down in 2019.
