Amoetsoe Mkwena

Date of appointment: August 2020

Amoetsoe Mkwena was educated at Haywood High School in Stoke-on-Trent, before attending the City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College.  She then studied for her LLB in Law at Exeter from 2013, graduating in 2016.  In August 2017, she achieved her Accelerated LPC from the BPP Law School, and has since been working as a Trainee Solicitor and Associate at Hogan Lovells International LLP in London.

Amoetsoe has always been interested in the governance of organisations, and jumped at the chance to join Council, both because of the way the Exeter experience shaped her, and also because she saw the potential to help the University to be even better.  She’s looking forward to driving positive change at the University, with a major focus on understanding the experience of our students, and ensuring that Council supports the University in fostering and maintaining an inclusive environment for all.

Whilst studying at Exeter, Amoetsoe enjoyed interacting with students and lecturers with different perspectives, and the understanding of different cultural nuances has helped shape her career to date.  She believes that we can learn so much by understanding people whose backgrounds are different to our own, and is keen to play a part in the University’s commitment to finding the best talent, and creating an environment in which everybody can thrive regardless of ethnic and social background.
