Geoff Pringle

Geoff joined the University of Exeter as Director of Campus Services in 2009 and, following 12 months spent as Deputy Chief Operating Officer, became Acting Chief Operating Officer in February 2014. The Chief Operating Officer Geoff has overall management responsibility for all areas of the University’s Professional Services. Through his team of Directors of Services and the Professional Services Management Group Geoff oversees the strategic direction of the University’s services and facilities.

The Chief Operating Officer holds the position of secretary to Council and Senate and is a core member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive Group. In addition to these positions Geoff Chairs or is a member of many University groups and committees.

Geoff has over 16 years’ experience in the University sector coupled with a career that spans some 35 years in hospitality and facilities management. In his previous role as Director of Campus Services Geoff was University lead for infrastructure, sustainability and environmental issues and was responsible for managing the overall look and feel of the University’s Streatham and St Luke’s campuses. As Director, Geoff ensured that all of the University functions reliant upon Campus Services were supported, be this through development of new buildings or facilities, legal or insurance issues, catering and hospitality provision, security or portering and maintenance needs. During his time as Director Geoff oversaw the successful planning and building of the Forum, Exeter’s £48million flagship student services centre.

Before joining Exeter Geoff worked for the University of Birmingham for more than 10 years. Geoff led a £100m project to redevelop student residences and catering services. Prior to that, Geoff spent 15 years with BT and was responsible for property and facilities management for the Human Resources Directorate that included the management of its residential training and conference centres. He project managed BT’s award winning conference and management training centre Kents Hill Park at Milton Keynes. Geoff graduated in Hotel and Catering Management from Hendon College of Technology, now part of Middlesex University, and he started his career in the hotel industry in London’s West End.

In 2012, Geoff became a Trustee for Hospiscare. Hospiscare is a local charity providing an all-encompassing service for people with a terminal diagnosis in Exeter, Mid and East Devon. All services are provided free of charge with the support of the local community. Geoff is also a Trustee of the Exeter Northcott Theatre.
