Our new Vice-Chancellor: the search begins
Professor Sir Steve Smith will be retiring from the University in August 2020, and the recruitment process to find our new Vice-Chancellor is now about to begin.
We’re following a defined process to find the right leader for our University, one who can build on our current successes and enable us to thrive in the future. The process will be led by a Joint Committee of Council and Senate, chaired by Sarah Turvill, our Chair of Council.
We will be using a professional recruitment firm and working with an external advisor on diversity amongst senior appointments. We also wish to use the networks and contacts of Exeter’s senior team, academic and professional service staff, Council, alumni, and regional, national and international partners to identify possible candidates.
We involved colleagues and students in influencing the job description and person specification, which is being finalised in March/April. The search for the right candidate begins in earnest in May and continues until Autumn 2019, when the assessment and selection process will take place. We will keep this page and our newsletters updated with further information when relevant and appropriate.
