Meet our Apprentices
An apprenticeship enables you to learn as well as earn and gives you an opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on, relevant training.
Find out what it's like being an apprentice at the University of Exeter.

Alannah Hall (IT)
"In comparison to other employers, the University offers the chance of a long term career and they have continuously supported me in developing my skills over the course of the apprenticeship and helped me to achieve above and beyond my potential."

Joshua Everett (IT)
"Getting hands-on experience in the workplace was very valuable and the idea of earning an income whilst learning sounded great. The University was right for me as there is a great variety of tasks and there is always something interesting happening due to it being such a large organisation."
Nadia Diaper (Business Admin)
"Doing this apprenticeship has really broadened my horizons and I love it. I was welcomed as part of the team from the offset and I often forget that I am an apprentice because they treat me like any other staff member and trust me to manage important documents.
I feel extremely lucky that I have been given the chance to be a Business Administration Apprentice at the University of Exeter and that I will be walking away with a fantastic life experience as well as a qualification! I would whole heartedly advise those looking for education to consider an apprenticeship!"
Georgie Rand (Plumbing and Heating)
"The University apprenticeship for commercial gas is probably one of the most unique in the country, just with the sheer scope of applications, the fact that we’ve run our own £10 million gas network, we support and manage fixed gas systems for research buildings, gas safety systems, pneumatics, etc. I’m confident that there’s not another job in the country that can offer such a broad scope as Exeter does.
I mostly enjoy working with such friendly and experienced people that are always happy to share their knowledge with me."

Emily Williams (HR Administrator)
"The best thing about being an apprentice is the fact that you’re working, you feel like a regular member of the team, but you also have so much support- both through the employer and the college. My days are so productive and rewarding and the learning just seems to happen naturally without me realising.
I also get to go to college a day a week, which is great, hearing how apprentices at other organisations are finding things and just having a chat with people learning and have the same problems as me."
John Ireland (Plumbing and Heating)
"The work we’ve had to undertake is above and beyond where we should be in our syllabus and skill set – it’s what you would expect of senior craftsmen.
It's a really nice place to work and it’s been a pleasure to come in. I feel more confident in myself and it’s really helped me find career satisfaction."

Badar Afzal (CBP Support Assistant)
"In one word; opportunities. I left school with only one A-Level, but after completing 18 months of paid work, I will also obtain a foundation degree level qualification after I complete my level 4 in business administration. After that, I could go on to university to study for an undergraduate degree, which was not a viable option for me before.
To have the opportunity to earn whilst I learn, whilst working in a job I love is all I could really ask for. If it was not for this apprenticeship, I likely would have not been able to start working here, or in other places with similar opportunities”
Amelia Ware (Business Admin)
"I was a bit nervous on my first day (who isn’t on the first day) but everyone gave me a warm welcome. I was welcomed by my team leader who I had been talking to since I got the job, and if I had any questions before I started, I had that point of contact. With that, I felt like I knew someone before I had even started, which made me more relaxed coming into a new team."
