Responsibilities

The Roles and Responsibilities for a successful apprenticeship are shared equally by the apprentice, employer and the training provider. 

  1. Work with their line manager and training provider to agree on an individual learning plan to achieve their apprenticeship.
  2. Manage their own learning, and with support from their line manager and training provider work to meet the targets and timelines needed to complete the apprenticeship by the planned end date.
  3. Participate in reviews with their line manager and training provider to track progress and success in meeting apprenticeship milestones, and agree any changes needed to the learning plan to address performance or support enhanced learning opportunities.
  4. Manage and track attendance and participation to meet off-the-job learning requirements for the apprenticeship programme.
  5. Inform the training provider and their line manager if personal circumstances change that will affect the completion of the apprenticeship or will change the planned end date.
  6. Proactively identify any issues or barriers to the successful completion of their apprenticeship and raise these quickly with their line manager and training provider and work with both to implement any action needed.
  7. Raise any queries or complaints regarding the apprenticeship through the training provider processes, and to the ESFA where needed.
  8. Participate in course feedback and apprenticeship evaluation to support the continuous improvement of the programme for current and future apprentices.
  9. Take opportunities that arise to support other current and future apprentices to benefit from their apprenticeship.
  1. Provide a working environment that meets current health and safety legislation to enable their apprentice to work and learn safely for the duration of the apprenticeship.
  2. Provide a contract of employment that is no less in duration than the length of the Apprenticeship.
  3. Work with their apprentice and the training provider to agree an individual learning plan, and provide the apprentice with access to the on the job knowledge, skills and experience, resources and opportunities needed to achieve this apprenticeship.
  4. Support the training provider to comply with funding rules and collate evidence to confirm apprentice and apprenticeship eligibility for funding.
  5. Support the apprentice to manage their own learning, by ensuring sufficient off-the-job time in their normal contracted working hours (or time in lieu) to meet the requirements of this apprenticeship. This must exceed 20% of their paid working hours minus statutory holiday entitlement (of 28 days).
  6. The University must enable the line manager and/or workplace mentor to support and guide this apprentice to carry out their day to day role and to meet the targets and timelines needed to complete the apprenticeship by the planned end date.
  7. Participate in reviews with the apprentice and the training provider, providing evidence and feedback on progress at work and success in meeting apprenticeship milestones, and agree on any changes needed to the learning plan supporting the apprentice to address performance or access enhanced learning opportunities.
  8. Support their apprentice to track attendance and participation to meet off-the-job learning requirements for the apprenticeship programme.
  9. Inform the training provider if there are organisational or apprentice circumstance changes that will affect the completion of the apprenticeship or change the planned end date.
  10. Proactively identify any issues or barriers to the successful completion of this apprenticeship and raise these quickly with the training provider and the apprentice, working to implement any action needed.
  11. Raise any queries or complaints regarding the apprenticeship through the training provider's process, and to the ESFA where needed.
  12. Participate in course feedback, impact assessment and evaluation to support the continuous improvement of the programme for apprentices and the University.
  13. Take opportunities to promote and publicise the successful completion of the apprenticeship and the benefits of the apprenticeship programme.
  1. Provide a learning environment that meets current health and safety legislation to enable the apprentice to learn safely for the duration of the apprenticeship.
  2. Work with the apprentice and the University to comply with the apprenticeship funding rules, providing an evidence pack that confirms eligibility for funding.
  3. Work with the line manager and their apprentice to agree on an individual learning plan, and provide the apprentice with access to the knowledge, skills and experience, resources and opportunities needed to achieve this apprenticeship.
  4. Support the apprentice to manage their own learning, by ensuring sufficient resources, support, access to materials in their typical working day to meet off the job requirements of this apprenticeship.
  5. Enable the line manager and/or workplace mentor to support and guide the apprentice, to carry out their day to day role and to meet the targets and timelines needed to complete the apprenticeship by the planned end date by providing a clear summary of off the job and on the job, learning needed.
  6. Lead reviews with the apprentice and the line manager, providing evidence and feedback on progress to track success in meeting apprenticeship milestones, and agree to any changes needed to the learning plan to support the apprentice to address performance or access enhanced learning opportunities.
  7. Track attendance and participation to meet off-the-job learning requirements for the apprenticeship programme.
  8. Inform the university, and the line manager, if there are changes that will affect the completion of the apprenticeship or change the planned end date.
  9. Proactively identify any issues or barriers to the successful completion of the apprenticeship arising from the training provider, the University, the line manager or apprentice and raise these quickly with the line manager or apprentice, working to implement any action needed.
  10. Manage any queries or complaints regarding the apprenticeship through the training providers process, supporting the apprentice or the University to escalate to the ESFA where needed.
  11. Enable the line manager and apprentice participation in course feedback, impact assessment and evaluation to support the continuous improvement of the programme for apprentices and employers.
  12. Take opportunities to promote and publicise impact and success for the University, apprentice and the wider apprenticeship programme.
