Developing students' employability through eXfactor

As a Careers Consultant Mark plays a crucial role in helping students to develop their employability. As Mark explains: "...[I see] students one-to-one, and offer them advice and guidance… but I increasingly do a lot of group work and skills development. I tutor on things like the eXfactor, run sessions for different year groups, and also specific talks on different options as well.’

Through employability events such as the eXfactor, the University encourages students to think about their future careers from Day 1 of their time at University. "It's really important to think about employability early [on], because it's not just a question of getting to the final year and making a decision, and then falling into a job. Employers are very demanding nowadays, [with] a lot of employers recruit[ing] through formal internship programmes where you might apply as early as the beginning of the second year... Employers expect quite a range of work experience, relevant to the roles they are offering’.

Aim 2: Excellent employment experiences & capabilities
To measure and improve the employability attributes of all students through course, extra-curricular and out-of-term-time activities

eXfactor

“…you really need to focus on what you want and gain relevant insights and experience.”
