Student-led research

"All of our students get the opportunity to do a final-year research project where they have a chance to work in a laboratory or in the field or perhaps on the computer, to either analyse data or generate their own data and to work in a research group within Biosciences, to actually feel what it’s like to be part of a research environment."

Journal clubs

"We’ve introduced journal clubs into many of our final-year modules which introduce students to primary research publications. They can dissect conclusions from the data in small group settings with feedback from academics. This has been very very well received by students."

Aim 3: Research-inspired, inquiry-led learning

To extend the opportunities for students to learn in innovative ways through their own research and inquiry in each year of study

Student-led research

"They’ll write this up as a report in the nature of a scientific paper, which is very good training for communicating to others: to other scientists, to other people that are interested in the research that they’ve done".

Journal clubs

"They can dissect some of the conclusions from the data. They can compare contrasting hypotheses and... critically evaluate data which is a very important part of their education."
