Early Arrivals 2022/23

The main arrivals period will be Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September 2022.

For operational reasons, most of our residences are unable to accept arrivals before the start of the Arrivals period.

We therefore ask that, unless you meet the criteria below, you make plans to arrive from 17 September 2022.

The following students will be given priority:

  • Current INTO Students (progressing on to a degree/masters course)
  • Students whose course starts before 16 September 2022 (e.g. MSc FAFM)
  • Care leavers and estranged students
  • Others with extenuating circumstances of which we have been made aware

If you fit into one of these groups and you have accepted an accommodation offer for the 2022/23 year you will be able to apply online for early arrival accommodation from Friday 1 July 2022.

Please note:

  • We are unable to guarantee that your term-time room will be available before the start of the Arrivals period and it is likely we will offer you a temporary room. This means you will be required to move again on or around Wednesday 14 September.
  • We are only able to offer an Early Arrivals temporary room to students who have an offer for the University of Exeter accommodation. If you have been offered accommodation in the private sector then the option of Early Arrival will not be possible, however we suggest you contact the residence directly to discuss your options.

Applications are made online through your accommodation account and will open on Friday 1 July 2022. They are processed in date order of arrival, subject to availability. Please select the 'Summer 2022' then 'Early Arrival Applicant' to complete your application.

The earliest date you can arrive on is Sunday 14 August 2022. If you are looking to arrive before this date then you will need to make an additional application for Summer Accommodation. Please contact us if you require clarification about your intended stay.

You must arrive by Sunday 11 September. No arrivals will be taken between Monday 12 and Friday 16 September 2022 as we need to ensure that all rooms have been cleaned and are ready for the start of the arrivals period.

The application system will therefore close on Thursday 8 September 2022 so that we can ensure the accommodation is ready for your arrival.

  • Applications will be processed in date order of arrival so you may not hear from us until 3 days prior to your arrival.
  • The offer will contain details of the total cost for your stay and your arrival information for both the temporary and term time early arrival accommodation, including the day you will need to move rooms (if applicable). The offer will be valid for 5 days and will show an expiry date by which you need to accept the offer. Due to demand for rooms at this time, after this date we reserve the right to withdraw the offer, and offer the room to another applicant.
  • All correspondence from the Accommodation Office, including your offer of accommodation, will be sent to the email address which you provide on your application. Please ensure you regularly check your inbox as well as your spam/junk email folders.

Unless it is absolutely necessary, we strongly advise that you do not arrive before the start of your accommodation contract for the following reasons:

  • Isolation: those who arrive early will often be the only resident in a flat until the Arrivals period begins.

  • Confusion: feedback from previous years highlights that students who arrived early missed out on relevant information.

  • Logistics: we cannot guarantee that you will be able to move directly into your term time room, so you may have to move rooms more than once in a short period.

  • The residences and the University facilities are often not fully operational until the start of term.

International students may wish to refer to the University's information on planning your travel to campus

  • Once you have been allocated accommodation and have accepted the contract, you will not be able to amend your booking or move rooms.

  • You may cancel your contract if you give us written notice by emailing exeterao@exeter.ac.uk within five working days, beginning on the day after the date the agreement becomes binding, stating that you wish to cancel your contract. Please mark your email "For attention of Accommodation Office - contract cancellation". The agreement becomes binding on the date on which you receive an email entitled "Contract Formation Email" from the University confirming that the contract has been formed. If you fail to notify us within the five working day period, you can only terminate the accommodation agreement in accordance with the points set out below.

  • If after the first 4 weeks stay you wish to cancel your booking you will need to give at least 2 weeks’ advance notice. You may then be eligible to receive a refund for any unused nights remaining after the 2 weeks' advance notice.

  • If after the first 4 weeks stay you wish to change the end dates of your booking you will need to give at least 2 weeks’ advance notice.

  • Refunds can only be paid into a UK bank account and this must be from the same account that the initial payment was drawn.  Please be advised that refunds can take up to 28 days to process.

  • Please be aware that we cannot guarantee that it will possible for you to stay in the same room if you wish to extend your stay, we will advise accordingly.

  • Sub-letting is prohibited.

  • Please be aware that we reserve the right to amend your room booking prior to arrival in the same residence/price to meet our operational needs.

A room condition check form will be issued to students upon arrival and it should be returned within seven days of issue. A room inspection will take place at the end of occupancy.

You will be advised about arrangements for moving to your term time accommodation after you have arrived. These arrangements will depend on whether you are subsequently moving into catered or self-catered accommodation.

  • Self-catered students are likely to be required to move into their term time room on Wednesday 14 September.
  • Catered students are likely to be required to move into their term time room on Friday 16 September.
  • On the day of your departure you will be required to vacate your accommodation by 10:00am.
  • Your key should be returned to your residence reception or left in the drop-off box.
  • If keys are not returned by this time, a charge will be made to your student account, as well as additional nights charged.
  • We will endeavour to have your term time room ready for you to move into from 10:00am but for operational reasons there may be a delay until 4:00pm. If this happens, we will ensure there is an area available for you to wait with your belongings.
