Due to the very limited number of self catered rooms available during the summer there are restrictions on who can stay beyond the end of their current contract. Vacation accommodation
If you are a current or prospective University of Exeter resident, and you require accommodation for the summer vacation period, you may be able to live in self-catered accommodation.
Summer accommodation
There is usually a limited number of rooms in self catered accommodation available for students for the summer period after the end of the current academic year. There are restrictions on who can stay beyond the end of their current contract. Priority will be given to those students who are currently in University accommodation. Students who have an outstanding debt with the University for accommodation will not be considered.
If you live in University owned or managed accommodation, you will automatically receive an email early in the summer term, informing you of when and how to apply for summer accommodation.
Early arrival
We would ask that unless you meet the criteria below that you either postpone your arrival until Welcome Week or perhaps find alternative accommodation in a hotel.
The following students ONLY will be given priority:
- Current INTO Students (progressing on to a degree course).
- Resident Life Team members.
- Students studying Msc Financial Analysis & Fund Management.
- Others with extenuating circumstances of which we have been made aware.
Please note we shall automatically email the early arrival details and an Early Arrival Form to the above groups when they are available in mid August.
Once your Early Arrival Application Form has been submitted, the Accommodation Office staff will contact you when the final details are confirmed to advise you of your arrival details using the email address you supply on your application. This will normally be from early September onwards.
If your term-time room is not available on the day you wish to arrive we will endeavour to accommodate you in a temporary room of our choice - restrictions will apply as temporary rooms are very limited. If your term time room is available within three days of your arrival we will not be able to accommodate you in a temporary bedroom.
Additional charges will apply for any period in which you occupy a room prior to the start of your contract.
Reasons not to arrive early
Unless it is absolutely necessary, we strongly advise that you arrive at the University of Exeter at the start of your accommodation contract for the following reasons:
- There is a considerable amount of building work on campus and refurbishment projects in certain residences.
- Feedback from previous years highlights that those students who arrived early missed out on relevant information.
- It can be quite lonely as those who arrive early will often be the only resident in a flat until Welcome Weekend.
- It is extremely advantageous for International Students to make use of the formal meet and greet service offered by the University. For instance, transport is arranged on Welcome Weekend with coaches departing from Heathrow Airport on a regular basis straight to your accommodation.
- We are not able to guarantee that you will be able to move directly into your term time room. If you are allocated a temporary room, you will be required to move from your temporary room on a specific date/time between residences which will mean that you will not be able to settle into your term time room from your arrival date.
- The residences and University facilities are often not fully operational until the start of term.
Summary
If you meet the criteria above and your term time room is available on the date you wish to arrive you will be allocated that room. If it is not available, we shall endeavour to provide alternative accommodation. Please note that we cannot guarantee that accommodation will be available before Welcome Weekend.
