How to choose a residence
Choosing your student accommodation can be a big decision. Before you apply there are some things you will want to think about. Use our accommodation search to find student housing that matches your requirements.
All of our accommodation adheres to the Student Accommodation Code developed by Universities UK and GuildHE.
What is important to you?
- Do you want a room just for term-time or during holidays as well?
- What facilities are important to you?
- What can you afford?
Do you want to live in self-catered or catered?
Undergraduate students can apply for catered or self catered accommodation. Postgraduate and part year study abroad/ Erasmus students can only apply for self catered.
Some students who need a special diet for medical or religious reasons may find self catered accommodation more convenient.
What location would you prefer?
All the catered halls are on the Streatham campus. Self-catered flats and houses are available on and close to both campuses.
Those studying Education, Sport and Health Sciences and students of the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry are based at St Luke’s campus.
Types of room
Our modern residences have three main types of room, shown below. Student rooms in our older residences will vary in size and layout. Twin (shared) rooms in our catered residences have two sets of furniture but one washbasin, where applicable.
Standard rooms are found in our older residences. The majority have a washbasin in the room. Bathroom facilities are shared with other residents.
In Birks Grange Village townhouses there is one shower room with toilet and washbasin for two students.
Studio rooms include standard fixtures and fittings plus a kitchen area and en-suite bathroom including shower, washbasin and toilet.
Self contained flats include separate bedroom(s), bathroom, kitchen and lounge. Dining facilities vary between flats and are in the lounge or kitchen area.
For more information about what will be in your room when you arrive please see our catered or self catered residence pages.
