Introduction to social media

Location: Forum Seminar Room 1

Nick Southall, University expert, will guide you through the maze of social media, talking about its history and evolution, explaining exactly how and why the University uses it, and how you can make the most if it yourself. Expect audience participation!

'Sensational Scholars? Academics on TV’

Andrew Stratton Convocation Lecture

Venue: Alumni Auditorium, Forum

Once confined almost exclusively to the ivory tower, today's academics are now increasingly visible in the media. From Professor Brian Cox to Professor Mary Beard, scholars have been sharing their expertise with television audiences. But is it possible for a scholar to manage the difficult balance between academic credibility and popular accessibility?

Photography workshop: 'From my point of view'

Location: Forum Seminar Room 1

Bring your camera along for a talk & interactive workshop exploring photography and how to take better photos from commercial photographer Tim Pestridge LBIPP.

Tim is regularly commissioned by the University, and his interactive presentation will inspire you to look at everyday situations differently, with some case studies from Tim's working portfolio.

Be ready with your camera or smartphone as Tim will be challenging you to take some photos of your own in the second half of the session, including some typical scenarios such as portrait, still life, architecture.

University gardens. The grounds of the University of Exeter are registered as a botanical garden and recognised as one of the most beautiful of any British university. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.

Enjoy a three course meal with wine in the new University Reception for an additional £40 per head. The reception provides a fantastic atmosphere for events leaving you to enjoy good food with great views of the heart of campus.
