What is the Annual Fund?
The Annual Fund raises unrestricted funds from alumni, parents, staff and friends of the University to support projects which enhance the student experience across our campuses that would otherwise not receive funding. The Annual Fund seeks support each and every year from both existing and new donors.
Our main objective is to ensure that there are funds available to allow us to respond quickly and appropriately to the areas of greatest student need at Exeter. Your donations make a significant and immediate impact upon the quality of the Exeter experience for our students.
We also ask alumni to volunteer their time, skills and expertise to support projects.
How the Fund is allocated
The Annual Fund awarded over £182,000 in 2014/15 towards a range of projects. You can learn more about supported projects here.
Money raised each year is divided up across University departments, including the Students’ Guild, Sport and each of the academic Colleges. Applications are then made from staff and students to receive funding for their projects.
Why we need your help
Annual gifts are essential to enable exciting student projects and plans to become a reality. Regular, committed support through the Annual Giving Programme helps us to plan for the future. The collaborative impact of many combined gifts and donors is truly transformational.
Gifts of time
Alumni can bring invaluable skills, advice and life experience to projects. Even small gifts of time can be very impactful.
Alumni might be able to help by:
- Giving a talk
- Writing an article or blog
- Running a workshop
- Making connections
- Offering informal mentoring or guidance
We will do our best to facilitate a gift of time where we have alumni volunteers whose skills and availability match a project's needs.
You can direct your gift towards one of our main priority areas.
The Scholars' Fund
Today's students face a challenging financial environment and this fund provides a wide range of support: maintenance grants, travel bursaries, sports and music scholarships. We want talented students to come to Exeter and realise their full potential, regardless of their financial circumstances.
By making a donation to the Scholars' Fund, you can help provide students access to a first-class education which they may not otherwise be able to afford. Your gift will support students' academic and personal development, and give them the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge that will serve them throughout their lives.
The Research Fund
Research at Exeter focuses on some of the most fundamental issues facing the world today. We are leaders in cutting-edge science, engineering, mathematics and medicine research, and collectively, donations to this fund can be truly transformational. Your gift can help us to make ground-breaking developments and tackle major global challenges - from breakthroughs that will help combat diabetes and mood disorders, to technologies that will mitigate climate change.
The Sports Fund
Donations to the Sports Fund help support areas of sport at the University in greatest need. By increasing sports participation, supporting the range of sports clubs, covering travel costs, granting gym equipment and more, the Sports Fund helps cement Exeter's reputation as a centre of sports excellence. The Cornwall Opportunity Bursary
To mark the 10 year anniversary of the opening of the University's campuses in Penryn and Truro, we are establishing the Cornwall Opportunity Bursary. This Fund will support the best and brightest students from Cornwall to study at the University of Exeter.
Your gift will build a fund to ensure that Cornish students encountering unexpected financial need can flourish in their studies. Students will often incur additional costs beyond basic fees and maintenance, such as travel to undertake field courses, course costs including books and laptops, or family emergencies. Some students are better able to meet these costs than others, and your gift will ensure no student from Cornwall is disadvantaged or left behind. By making a donation today your gift will create life changing opportunities for talented students from Cornwall. If you would like to make a single payment to the Cornwall Opportunity Bursary, please visit our online payment facility.
The Nursery Fund
Providing adequate nursery facilities is a crucial part of supporting women in the workplace; whether they are students, staff, or academics. The University’s Family Centre on the Streatham Campus cares for children from six weeks old to school age. With nearly 40 years’ experience, the Family Centre has consistently received excellent inspection reports. However, there is an urgent need to enhance and improve the facilities so that we can meet the need for high quality, accessible childcare provision. Visit our Nursery Fund webpage for more information.
