Jon O’Sullivan (Psychology, 1999)
Head of Commercial Functions, Vattenfall Offshore Wind
ANG Role: Life and Environmental Sciences
After leaving Exeter, I decided to do an MSc in Management and Marketing at the University of Bath. In 2001 I joined BP’s Graduate Commercial Development Programme and subsequently held a wide variety of different business roles, ultimately becoming Biofuels Commercial Project Manager for BP Biofuels.
In 2011 I joined Vattenfall Offshore Wind, a major international renewable energy company, where I am currently Head of Commercial Functions.
I get a lot of satisfaction from supporting the University and am pleased to know that I am giving something back. What’s great about Exeter is the range of opportunities available to alumni who wish to become more involved. I enjoy directly helping current Psychology students by talking to them about my career. On the other hand, I also use my professional experience to advise and shape University strategy.
I met some of my closest friends, including my wife – who is an Exeter alumna - while I was a student, so Exeter has had a lasting influence on my life personally and professionally.
I joined the Alumni Network Group in 2008, initially advising on recent alumni activity, and helped to launch Exetra – the University’s group for recent alumni. I now advise on Life and Environmental Sciences, sharing this role with fellow alumnus Ben Norris.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Exeter and it’s now a great pleasure to be a member of the Alumni Network Group. The ANG is both an opportunity to continue a good relationship with the University and also very importantly, it’s the chance to give something back. It’s a win/win situation where the University receives time, effort and business advice. In return, I can discuss the latest developments, return to Exeter at least once per year and am proud to play a small role in helping the university and current students to achieve their goals."
