"I have been a member of the Alumni Network Group since its inception in 2008 and have been instrumental in establishing the Alumnae Group, which provides inspiration, networking and support opportunities for our women graduates."
Lucy Studholme (née Deans-Chrystall) (English with American and Commonwealth Arts, 1985)
ANG Role: Alumnae Group
I initially pursued a career in nursing, both general and paediatrics, in London, before coming to Exeter as a mature student in 1982. After graduating, I returned to London and worked as Training and PR Manager for Barclay’s retail stockbroker until 1988. I was a non-executive director of The Share Centre for 11 years. I joint own and run a portfolio of businesses, including farming, forestry, let housing and light industrial property in Devon, and a holiday letting house in Italy. Since 2003 I have provided and run the High Court Judges’ Lodgings when they are sitting at the Crown and County Court in Exeter.
From 1995-2009 I was a Trustee of the University of Exeter Foundation. I have also been a Trustee Representative on the University’s Bill Douglas Centre Advisory Board and was a Privy Council member of the University Court for over 16 years. I have served on the University’s Council from 2006-2012, with particular responsibility via Dual Engagement, working with the Development and Alumni Relations Office. I have also been a member of the University’s Audit, Education, HR and Honorary Degree Committees. I have been a Board Member of the Exeter Northcott Theatre from early 2012.
I have been a member of the Alumni Network Group since its inception in 2008, working on the 'Creating a World-Class University Together' Campaign, and have been instrumental in establishing the Alumnae Group, which provides inspiration, networking and support opportunities for our women graduates, across all ages and stages of life and professions, and beyond. No other UK university is doing this in quite the same way, and we are aspiring to become a leader in this approach to giving life-long support to our alumnae.
The Alumni Network Group are talented and experienced individuals from a wide range of professions, who are committed to supporting Exeter’s alumni through networking, mentoring and employability opportunities, and the University. It is very rewarding to have been part of the University’s recent successful progression to Top 10 in the UK and the Russell Group, and to provide a student-centred heart to the Streatham campus in the Forum.
I am passionate about finding ways of offering our women graduates life-long support for their careers and life decisions, from graduation to the work place, returning to work and beyond. The Alumnae Group showcase our inspirational alumnae from a wide range of professions across all ages, and also research being under-taken by the University’s female academics. It is exciting and rewarding to be part of such a committed Group.
