Among many other activities, the key role of Convocation is to: support the University; represent the views of alumni and organise social events. Melody Dougan (History 1958), Chair of Convocation, is pictured here (above centre) at the opening of The Sir Christopher Ondaatje Devon Cricket Centre.

Exeter University Convocation & Convocation Club

Convocation comprises graduates, alumni and staff of the University of Exeter. The Convocation Club offers a range of social and cultural activities for members and their families through its branches, which are largely autonomous local groups.
Each local branch puts together a programme of events led by individual volunteers. The range is vast, reflecting members' interests. Any member is free to offer to host or organize an event. Clubs charge a small annual membership fee and each regional Branch has a small Committee. Branch locations can be found online together with details of annual events.

What does Convocation do?

  • Hosts the annual Graduation Ball, jointly with the Students’ Guild
  • Organises and runs the annual Paddon Award competition
  • Presents the Andrew Stratton Lecture
  • Organises an annual Reunion in Exeter for alumni, as well as social events organised by Convocation branches around the UK
  • Finances a Sports Scholarship for students at the University
  • Represents alumni to the University
  • Works with the Alumni office, keeping in touch with Exeter graduates.

You can subscribe to Branch lines, Convocation’s quarterly newsletter, to keep up-to-date with features on some of Convocation's past social activities throughout the year.
