The University sponsors a number of events to bring together alumni working in the media and the creative industries.
In addition, the alumni office works closely with Xmedia (including Xpression FM, XTV and Exepose) to bring alumni to campus to speak with students, or to allow students to meet with alumni who can offer professional advice and guidance for students wishing to embark on a career in the media.
Many alumni who are well-known in the media have hosted these events, including:
- Paul Jackson (English 1970), former Director of Entertainment and Comedy at ITV and producer of many well-known shows including The Young Ones and Red Dwarf, who hosted a reception at ITV in 2007
- Simon Greenberg (History 1990), former Communications and Public Affairs Director, Chelsea Football Club and current Chief of Staff for the England 2018 bid for the football World Cup, who hosted a reception at Chelsea FC in 2008
- Stewart Purvis, CBE Hon LLD (Politics 1969), Ofcom Partner for Content and Standards, and recipient of the Royal Television Society's Gold Medal for an outstanding contribution to television, who hosted a reception at Ofcom in 2009.
