Law LLB (2018)

What did you enjoy about your degree programme?

The variety, which is probably not the typical answer! In first and second year, you study all the compulsory modules together with the whole cohort which allows you a chance to get to know lots of different people, which is really valuable. The choice of modules in third year allowed me to study very different subjects, from medical ethics to commercial!

Tell us about the award you have received. What does this award mean to you?

I have received the Malcolm Mead award for Employment Law, which means I was awarded the highest mark in this module overall. This was very unexpected, as I did find studying employment law difficult at times, however being able to learn about the law behind current news stories such as those involving Deliveroo and Uber was incredibly interesting.

What has been the highlight of your time at Exeter?

Where do I start? The whole of third year has been a highlight for me; knowing I had secured a training contract allowed me to enjoy my studies and time with my friends without also having to dedicate time to applications. By third year, I’d also relaxed into Exeter and really hit my stride – a.k.a. knowing all the best brunch spots!

What will you miss the most about University?

Being able to pop round all my friends’ houses without a second’s notice, and everyone always being available to hang out together doing something, or nothing! I also really enjoyed studying more specialised modules in third year, such as company law and insurance law. Finally, I’ll miss the freedom! As a student, you pretty much have free rein to spend your time however you like.

What advice would you give to current and future students?

Make the most of your time at university – you never know where signing up to that free ultimate frisbee session will lead you! But also, don’t stress if things don’t go well the whole time; the highs and the lows help to shape the person you are when you graduate.

What are your plans now that you have graduated?

I’ll be starting the LPC in September at BPP Holborn in London, before commencing a training contract at City law firm Macfarlanes in September 2019.
