BA Politics with Middle Eastern Studies (2018)

What did you enjoy about your degree programme?

The constant encouragement and support that the department has provided me to exercise my intellectual freedom and explore ideas that interest me. Because of this I have been able to explore a variety of concepts through my degree, giving me a better understanding of politics across the world.

Tell us about the award you have received. What does this award mean to you?

I have received the ‘Goldsmiths Award for Significant Contribution to Departmental Life by a Department of Politics student’. The Politics Department have helped me a lot through my degree and I am grateful for having been able to give something back to the department, albeit in the smallest way possible.

What has been the highlight of your time at Exeter?

Engaging with my department and getting to know my course mates and lecturers through my seminar groups has not only challenged me intellectually but has also allowed me to meet some of my closest friends and make life- long friendships.

What will you miss the most about University?

Knowing that all your friends are just around the corner, and meeting new people on a daily basis. I will miss the sense of community that is formed amongst Exeter students.

What advice would you give to current and future students?

If there is anything you feel like you should try, do it. Your time at university allows you to pursue whatever you wish and try to get involved in as much as possible, even if that means stepping out of your comfort zone- you will be amazed at how much you discover about yourself.

What are your plans now that you have graduated?

I will be taking up a graduate position in the civil service.
