Women in Leadership

Alumnae enjoy the Women and Leadership Reception.

Alumnae group established following ‘Women and Leadership’ event

A dedicated group for women graduates from the University of Exeter is being created following a successful networking event in London.

Over 100 guests gathered at the Willis Building to hear a presentation by leading psychologist Professor Michelle Ryan.

Professor Ryan gave a unique insight into her research on the Glass Cliff phenomenon which impacts on women in positions of leadership within companies. This globally-important work was named by the New York Times as one of the ideas which shaped 2008.

The evening also provided an opportunity for all the alumni there to put forward ideas on plans to establish a dedicated group for women, to provide networking and support opportunities. As a result of the feedback, the group is planning more events in the future.

The event was generously hosted by Sarah Turvill (Law 1975), Chairman of Willis International Ltd. Sarah will take on the role of Chair of the University’s Council from next August.
