Placement students present their innovative project at Law Alumni Event

Law students on the Learning from Work Experience module have been working on an innovative project with Exeter City Football club since January 2012.  Their project, part of a wider collaborative initiative between Exeter City Football Club and the University of Exeter, centred on a data collection exercise whereby the students helped create a survey to find out about the views of current fans and of the wider community on various aspects of the club, including the awareness of the club's community engagement activities.  Later on this year, the students will present their findings to the club.

Managing the project is sociology lecturer Dr. Mark Doidge, who explains;

"The students have had a unique opportunity to speak to Exeter City, a customer who provided a range of opportunities. By understanding what the customer wanted, designing a strategy and implementing it, the team developed skills that are invaluable in the globally competitive job market."

As a "warm-up friendly", four of the six students on the project were invited to speak at the Law alumni event which was held at the offices of Winckworth Sherwood and hosted by alumnus Hugh MacDougald.

Exeter City Football Club won an award at the National Council for Work Experience 2012 award ceremony last week for the placement opportunities they have offered the University of Exeter this year. Not only did the collaboration win in the category of Work Placement of the Year but also it received a special commendation from the judging panel.
