Effective Time Management in Easy Steps by John Carroll

Effective time management tips from alumnus

In the days when many of us struggle to stay afloat in a sea of paperwork, emails, meetings and an ever-growing to-do list, help is at hand from an Exeter alumnus.

Effective Time Management in Easy Steps by John Carroll (MSc Information Technology 2005) looks to help the reader to work smarter by making the time spent at work more effective. The book also offers practical help to achieve more free time outside work and the energy to enjoy it!

“Many people are spending longer and longer hours working in a vain attempt to catch up and complete their to do list,” said John. “The frustrating thing is that even if you get near to completion another big pile of work usually comes along. It can be tiring and demoralising.

“The aim of this book and my others is to help people work really efficiently, thus freeing up some of their time to spend with friends, family and leisure pursuits.”

John, whose next book is scheduled to be published in April, has drawn on his experiences as a former project management consultant and trainer for his writing. He is also a member of the British Computer Society, a Chartered Engineer and a European Engineer.

He has run many projects throughout Europe and the United States and has experience with most types of organizations including government, higher education, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, software engineering and the emergency services. John ran the phase of the University of Exeter Network Upgrade Project from 2008 to 2010.

Now retired, John lives in Devon and in addition to writing, enjoys walking, cycling, home-brewing, wine making and bread baking.

John is also the author of the following books:
