Lion dancing at the Chinese New Year celebrations

Chinese New Year celebrations on campus

Over 2000 people came to campus to celebrate the Chinese New Year and welcome in the Year of the Snake.

This annual event organised by the Chinese Student Scholars Association and International Student Support team welcomes students, staff and the public to celebrate Chinese culture with the 1373 Chinese students at the University of Exeter.

Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Professor Sir Steve Smith and Lord Mayor Councillor Rob Newby opened the celebrations at 3pm, followed by dragon and lion dancing on the Great Hall Piazza. Food stalls, games, activities and a cultural show in the Alumni Auditorium were highlights of the afternoon, culminating in a spectacular firework display.

Thank you to everyone who came along and to the Student’s Guild, Streetwise and the Development and Alumni Office for sponsoring the event.
