When the Crow Cries is the first in her Two Worlds trilogy

Debut novel tells of darker world

What would you do if you found a doorway to another world? And if you did go through it, what would happen if you couldn’t come back?

Alumna Maxine Ridge tells the tale of four friends who discover and visit a darker parallel place in her debut novel When the Crow Cries, the first of her Two Worlds trilogy.

“I am delighted to finally publish my story,” she said. “It is a fantasy adventure story for teenagers exploring themes of innocence and experience, space and time. When four friends find a doorway to another world, they don't know that one day they won't be able to come back.”

Maxine took her first degree at Exeter, then went on to take her PGCE in Secondary English and Media and completed her masters in English in 2010.

For the past four years she has been teaching English and drama to young people and now teaches writing skills and yoga.

When the Crow Cries is available from Stairwell Books and you can watch the trailer on youtube.
