Santander Scholarships provide Brazilian Boost for Summer School Study

Competition for scholarship places for The Santander Summer Institute was high with over 300 applications from students at 124 Brazilian institutions for five places.

The successful eight (Livia Regina Batista, Iury Paz Limeira, Aroldo Moreira, Amanda Mello,  Silvia Domingos Leal, Catherine Luiza Werlang, Livi Gerbase, Fernanda Boratto Lucas Teixeira E Silva) were chosen because of their clear passion for their subject, to study abroad and their impressive academic achievements.

Silvia Leal, one of the lucky students who received the scholarship said: “I chose to apply to the Santander Universities – University of Exeter Summer Institute because it offers a good programme which will give me the opportunity to expand my area of expertise at one of the best universities in the world. I believe the most rewarding aspect of this experience will be the ongoing cultural exchange, and the resulting personal and professional growth each student will bring back home.”

Part of the 2015 International Summer School, the special four week Santander Summer Institute course offers students unique opportunities to study out in the Devon countryside including field trips to Dartmoor, the River Exe Estuary and studying biomass in Stoke Woods. Students will then go on to take part in the International Summer School Programme where they will have a chance to study subjects from Global Enterprise to Climate Change.

Short-term study programmes are becoming increasingly popular and have proved very successful in improving student mobility - particularly in countries where there are relatively low numbers of students studying abroad on degree programmes.
