Alumni return to Exeter for Business and Finance Society annual dinner

The University of Exeter’s student Business and Finance Society (BFS) welcomed 12 alumni to their 6th annual flagship dinner at the Mercure Southgate Hotel.

Graduates from companies such as HSBC, EY, JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs attended the annual dinner, which allows members to meet with alumni who are industry professionals within the realms of both business and finance. For the alumni, it offers the opportunity to return to Exeter, meet some of the keenest students that the society can offer, and also the chance to reminisce and hear about developments at the University since their graduation.

At the dinner, alumni each host a table and students are allocated to each by matching their desired sectors/industries with those that the table hosts are working in.

Current President, Christopher Penny (BSc Economics) said “It was a pleasure to welcome such high calibre alumni to our dinner. Creating a strong network is something which greatly benefits our members and alumni alike. Having spoken to some of the alumni following the event, they were extremely impressed with both the enthusiasm and proactivity of the society’s attendees. Hopefully the relationships forged from events such as the alumni dinner will blossom, and some of our current members will return as alumni themselves in the future.”

The BFS aims to help members gain a better insight into the commercial world, network with like-minded students and ultimately secure a successful career. Student membership currently stands at over eight hundred members. The BFS currently holds sponsorship from PWC, Accenture, J.P. Morgan, Nomura, Allen & Overy, Fidelity and Morgan Stanley, amongst others. One of the priorities of the current committee is to develop stronger links with alumni who have forged successful careers in the finance industry, in order to help members gain a better understanding of what to expect from the industries within which they wish to pursue careers.

Alumni can help across a wide variety of projects and we are happy to work with you to find a way to get involved with suits your skills and circumstances. To express your interest or for more information, please email alumni@exeter.ac.uk
