Alumnae group established following ‘Women and Leadership’ event
A dedicated group for women graduates is being created following a successful networking event in London. Over 100 guests gathered at the Willis Building to hear a presentation by leading psychologist Professor Michelle Ryan.

Alumnus sets up Met Office clothing range
An eco-clothing company set up by an Exeter alumnus and his brother has won a prestigious contract with the Met Office. Martin Drake-Knight and brother Rob set up the clothing range Rapanui using eco fabrics and operating from a wind-powered factory. 

Aquatic role for cameraman
Alumnus, Rich Maskey (Biosciences 2011) is volunteering his camera skills as part of a planned project to create five short feature films, which it’s hoped will help instil a love of the oceans across the wider public.

Postgraduate Studentships available

Fundraising to the tune of thousands
One alumnus has found a novel way to raise funds for a vital medical research centre at the University – by allowing donors to choose to hear him sing – or not!
Martin Cook’s fun approach has already raised more than £6,500, which will go towards supporting leading research into diabetes.

Two alumni featured among the winners of the inaugural University of Exeter Impact Awards. Martin Holland and Tim van Berkel won the Student Impact Award for their Heart of Borneo Project.

OBE for University Deputy Chief Executive
David Allen, the Registrar and Deputy Chief Executive of the University of Exeter, has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List, for services to higher education.

Unique partnership will support emerging filmmakers
Britain’s film industry is set to receive a boost as a result of a new partnership between the University of Exeter and the London Film School. This five-year agreement will enable doctoral film students to hone their filmmaking skills alongside their academic studies.

Exeter is first UK university to establish representation in Bangalore
The University of Exeter has become the first UK university to establish representation in the Indian city of Bangalore. An official launch event saw Indian and UK dignitaries celebrating the long-standing links between the University and India and the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship.

Walking for justice
The Wainwright Walk is an event organised to help raise vital funds to increase access to justice in Exeter. The walk will be led by Baroness Hale in memory of District Judge Jill Wainwright, who was involved in the steering group which envisaged the Community Legal Helpdesk. Short walk cuts chocolate consumption in half
A 15-minute walk can cut snacking on chocolate at work by half, according to research by the University of Exeter. The study showed that, even in stressful situations, workers eat only half as much chocolate as they normally would after this short burst of physical activity.

University and Netmums join forces to tackle postnatal depression
The University of Exeter and parenting website Netmums are developing a new online therapy programme for postnatal depression.
This innovative approach to treatment has been created in response to the stigma that still surrounds postnatal depression, preventing many women from seeking help.

Zoo research comes over loud and clear
An Exeter alumna has found that, for one species of primate at least, it’s survival of the loudest. Research carried out for the University and Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust has shown that the howler monkeys who call most often, breed more.

TCL supports school sports initiative in Exeter
Transition Consulting Limited (TCL) are sponsoring Exeter’s Sports Volunteering Scheme, helping to support and develop local young people. Students at the University of Exeter are volunteering in schools throughout the Exeter area.
