Thank you! Alumni volunteering leads to international award
Exeter's pioneering volunteering programme caught the attention of judges at international organisation CASE.They granted Exeter the top honour they can bestow - the gold award in their 2012 Circle of Excellence Awards programme.

£1,500 business subsidies available to employ an Exeter graduate
The University, in conjunction with Santander Universities, is pleased to announce the launch of the ‘Access to Internship’ competition. Small-medium enterprises can apply for £1,500 toward the cost of employing an Exeter graduate.
Applications close Friday 2 November 2012.

Entrepreneur alumna and Dragon's Den competitor wins business award
Emily Webb's ergonomic hand grips have been used by the 2012 Paralympians and military hospitals. She was named Young Entrepeneur of the Year at the 2012 South Wales Business Awards.

Moldovan community benefits from alumni visit
A village in Moldova is enjoying a new playground and improved housing conditions thanks to the efforts of a group of Exeter graduates. Emma Watson set up her charity ‘The Moldova Project’ with her sister after visiting the country in 2008 and witnessing the lives of some of the poorest families there.

First production for drama graduates’ theatre company
‘Reverb’ Theatre Company will perform Agent at Exeter’s Bike Shed Theatre from 9-13 October 2012. Set in 1939 Exeter, audience members are invited to attend in black tie as the patrons of the Star Stores Public House.

University of Exeter ranked among world's top 200
The University of Exeter is one of the top 200 universities in the world, according to the largest and most extensive international league table, the QS World University Rankings. The 2012 league table ranks Exeter 182nd out of 2,500 universities – up from 207th place last year.

Congratulations to Exeter's Olympians and Paralympians
Alumna Sarah Thomas helped Team GB hockey achieve their first medal since 1992. Honorary Graduate Ben Ainslie earned a record fourth consecutive gold medal in sailing. Alumnus Ian Haley also competed with the South African hockey squad. PhD student Robin Williams competed in blind football, and fellow Paralympian and Exeter alumna Crystal Lane partook in multiple cycling events.

Exeposé celebrates anniversary with exhibition of journalistic history
Exeposé, the University of Exeter’s student newspaper, will celebrate its first 25 years this month with the first ever exhibition of its kind: ‘Print Power: A History of Exeter through the Student Press'.

Exeter engineer awarded prestigious water fellowship
Professor Zoran Kapelan of the University of Exeter has been awarded a fellowship from the International Water Association (IWA). The IWA seeks to create a positive impact on poverty reduction, economic growth, human health and environmental sustainability in urban areas.

Snacking and BMI linked to double effect of brain activity
and self-control
The research, carried out by academics from the universities of Exeter, Cardiff, Bristol, and Bangor, discovered that an individual’s brain ‘reward centre’ response to pictures of food predicted how much they subsequently ate.

Warming causes more extreme shifts of the Southern Hemisphere's largest rain band
South Pacific countries will experience more extreme floods and droughts, in response to increasing greenhouse gas emissions, according to a paper in Nature.

Long menopause allows killer whales to care for adult sons
Scientists at the universities of Exeter and York have found the answer to why female killer whales have the longest menopause of any non-human species - to care for their adult sons. The research shows that, for a male over 30, the death of his mother means an almost 14-fold increase in the likelihood of his death within the following year.

Highest ever BUCS ranking for Exeter
Exeter has secured its highest ever ranking in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) League, finishing 7th at the end of last season. Highlights from this year’s competitions included Men’s Hockey winning the Championship Final, six teams reaching the finals of the Western Conference Cup (including Men’s Basketball, Men’s Badminton and Women’s Football), Women’s Rugby 7s taking Gold at the Championship Finals and Yachting winning the National Finals.

Paralympian PhD student nominated for Sportsman of the Year
Robin Williams was nominated for 2012 BUCS Sportsman of the Year. He competed this summer as part of the 5-a-side blind football squad for ParalympicsGB. Alongside his football commitments, Robin is also currently studying for a PhD in Statistics. 

Sunny skies for 7th Alumni Golf Day
The event was fully-booked for the third consecutive year and saw a narrow victory for the 1990s team. This year's auction raised nearly £11,000 toward golf scholarships at Exeter.

£8.1m Streatham Sports Park redevelopment underway
The outdoor tennis and netball courts have been covered to increase capacity, and the Olympic-standard water-based hockey pitch has been resurfaced. The largest project, construction of a new gym and exercise studios, is underway and will be completed in time for the start of term in September 2013.
