Alumna gives talk at this year's Creative Careers Festival

On 22nd February, Alice Higgins (Drama, 2004) spoke at Working in Event Management, part of the Creative Careers Festival 2018. The festival provides opportunities for students to hear from alumni and professionals working in the creative industries, in order to aid their career planning.

Following the completion of her degree, Alice went straight into the events management industry, working in several roles such as fundraising, publicity, and events coordination. She has extensive experience working for several different charities and is currently part of the events team for Executive Business Support Ltd, a company whose main mission is supporting healthcare associations, societies and other professional organisations.

The event was well attended with over 50 students coming to hear about Alice’s experience in event management. Alice gave great insight into how her degree and taking part in student societies prepared her well for the demands of this sector, and gave her useful skills for her daily working life. She gave advice on how current students can boost their chances of working in event management, and highlighted the ups and downs of this busy but rewarding job. After an insightful presentation from Alice and an engaging Q+A session, the students had a chance to chat one-to-one with Alice about any next steps they could take. The event was a great success and we are very grateful to Alice for volunteering her time to speak to our students, it made such a difference to all who attended.
