Alumna releases debut single 'Wild Ocean' for first album

Alumna Victoria Halliburton (Fine Art and English, 2000) is a teacher, painter and also known as the musician Drawn Tide. She has just released a new music single ‘Wild Ocean’ an eclectic mix of ambient vocals, rap and downtempo instrumentals, perfect for those late-night London strolls or long distance journeys to take your mind away to another space. The track is from her upcoming first fully produced album ‘Archive’ which combines her love of different genres of music and also her love for Art through the medium of the music videos to produce emotional and thought-provoking tracks with linked visuals.

Victoria has been writing music since the age of 21 and developed her love for music in conjunction with her teaching career (she’s been teaching art for 22 years in London) by combining teaching English, Music and Art. Whilst her love for writing songs has always been there since she was a child, Victoria properly started writing songs whilst studying at Exeter as a resident of Lopes Hall and says it’s “always something I’ve continued in conjunction with drawing and painting throughout my life. For me the two are interlinked”.

Whilst at University, she also worked with a producer in Exeter and collaborated on a project that led to the very first song (Latoro – Electric Sky) that she wrote and recorded professionally being signed to Renaissance Records and released on vinyl.

In terms of her debut single, Victoria says: “The track ‘Wild Ocean’, and the whole album, is about loss, it’s for people who have gone through grief in different forms. To know that you aren’t alone and you can have a shared journey in healing. Listening to another’s journey can be powerfully introspective.

“I’ve always loved the sea, going out sailing with my Dad when I was young, to starting surfing whilst studying at Exeter and visiting Staunton and Putsborough regularly; even now I’m drawn to being out there – feeling that chaos and contentment whilst by this vast entity of the ocean that you can’t control.”

Looking to the future, Victoria is currently working on producing the full album but after that she plans on keeping writing songs and painting as well as continuing her studies for an MA in Integrative Child Psychotherapy. She also hopes to put on some live performances following the album release and circumstances with the COVID-19 pandemic mean events can take place again!

You can listen to song ‘Wild Ocean’ by downloading or streaming via Spotify, Tidal, YouTube - where you can see the music video, Deezer and iTunes, and make sure to keep your eyes out for more of Victoria’s album releases throughout the year.
