Medicine students have been gifted a £30 food voucher by Alumnus, David Higgins.

Alumnus gifts Medicine students £30 food delivery, to boost morale ahead of exams

Medicine students at the University of Exeter have been offered a £30 food delivery voucher to spend, thanks to a generous donation from an Exeter alumnus.

David Higgins (Law, 1990) is a long-time supporter of the University, and with his daughter studying a medical degree at the University of Exeter Medical School, he has seen first-hand how determined and hardworking Medicine students are as exam season approaches. David said: "While the University is doing a fantastic job of delivering intricate courses that prepare students for the real world, it does mean that students spend a lot of their time at home studying long hours for their exams. I hope they will use these vouchers to take some time out during revision and treat themselves to some nice food, perhaps while socialising with friends and focus on their mental health.’’

Last year, students who received the vouchers were exceptionally grateful for them and shared their appreciation for David’s support:

“This such a beautiful, kind and thoughtful gift. You…have sincerely cheered me up. I hope to one day be able to show others the same kindness that you have shown us today.”

“This is very generous of you, and definitely appreciated. This inspires me to keep working hard to make as much positive impact in the lives of the people around me/those I meet. Your thoughtfulness and kindness is awe-inspiring. Thank you very much.”

Professor Ian Fussell, Associate Dean of Education of the College of Medicine and Health, said: "We could not be more proud of our students' dedication and hard work throughout their studies. Alongside our staff, they are part of a hardworking community that has showed tremendous resilience in overcoming challenges, more significant than in previous years, so additional support is really appreciated. We are grateful to David for his ongoing support of our students over the years and his gift will certainly boost student morale.’’

All students have been sent an email about the offer so that they may claim their voucher by 22 May 2022
