More than 1,300 alumni completed the survey

Responding to your views

At the beginning of 2018 we sent a survey to all our alumni around the world. We asked you to share your views on our events, our newsletters, our magazine and our fundraising.

More than 1,300 of you completed the survey and we reviewed all your responses and comments, in order to check what we do and make changes where necessary

Three quarters of you said that you would like to attend more events but struggle because of location, cost and concern about knowing anyone.

In response to this we are working with our Country Contacts to organise more, smaller networking events around the world in locations convenient for alumni. We are also exploring live streaming of some events where there is a presentation, so that you can watch and submit questions wherever they are. And in the UK we are looking at organising events in Bristol and Birmingham as well as our regular London and Exeter venues, as we have a significant alumni community in these areas.

You also told us that you like social reunions, networking and opportunities to hear about research so we will be focusing on these areas in the coming year.

When it comes to our communications, 96% of you liked the magazine but would like some more alumni stories, memories, research impact and a decent online version. We have taken all this on board and hope that both the 2017-18 edition and the 2018-19 edition you will shortly receive, are an enjoyable and informative read.

82% of you find the newsletter informative and highlighted that the best content is news from around the University, alumni events, memories and information on benefits and discounts. Therefore we will focus on these areas for upcoming mailings.

And for those who give time and/or money, the vast majority indicated it was supporting students (studying, careers and extra-curricular activities) that inspired the donation but you were not always completely sure of the impact. Because of this we are looking at additional reports and case studies showcasing the impact that your volunteering, Alumni Annual Fund donations and other financial gifts have had. This should ensure you can see exactly how your support benefits students and be confidence that it has made a difference.

We also asked you to sum up your Exeter experience in three words – here are the results…
