Exeter alumna finds the perfect match in New York

Exeter alumna, Alice Tapfield (Politics with European Study, 2004), has helped to take matchmaking firm The Vida Consultancy across the pond.

Since its foundation in 2011, Vida has been successfully pairing professional couples all over the world from its headquarters in London, but with more and more interest coming from the US the time was right to expand. And Alice has been helping to ensure its success.

Alice said: “Matchmaking certainly wasn’t a career I had considered (or even heard of) while at Exeter, but many of the skills involved are relevant to my initial interest in diplomacy. I focus on the new business side of things but have learnt a lot about the psychology involved in determining people’s long-term compatibility, which is fascinating.

“The bigger the city the easier it can be to feel lonely, particularly if you’ve just relocated, and ironically it can be incredibly hard to find lasting romance in a metropolis like New York where there are so many apparent options. The stories we hear at Vida are wide-ranging and colourful, but ultimately all our members are looking for love.”

In November the company won “Best International”, as well as “Best UK”, matchmaker at the UK Dating Awards and has since been taking the Big Apple by storm. With an experienced local matchmaker now heading New York operations, the ‘NY-LON’ combination of a British approach to matchmaking with a New York attitude is proving to be a powerful partnership!

Alice and the Vida team are looking forward to helping many more people find their Mr / Miss Right in the city that never sleeps, and would love to hear from any eligible single Exeter alumni out there! But whatever your relationship status, if you’re simply searching for some great NYC date venues, they have some hot suggestions for the cold months ahead…
