Alumnus Hugo Chance speaks to students about how to use their Social Sciences degree for a career in Finance

Sociology and Philosophy alumnus Hugo Chance returned to campus to speak to 30 students across SSIS disciplines about his successful career in the Finance sector, and how they can follow a similar path.

Hugo, who has been involved with SME fund raising for over ten years and has recently started his own firm ‘Chance Capital’, spoke about what it takes to be successful in a career in Finance and how the skills he learned from his Social Sciences degree helped him along the way.

Hugo commented ‘I greatly enjoyed coming back to Exeter and witnessing such positive change since I left in 2004. There is a tangible sense of encouragement for those seeking to create their own enterprises and such a fantastic degree of support from the university. As an alumnus, I am very keen to see how Chance Capital can join with Exeter University in supporting those individuals and businesses.’

The event was organised in response to growing interest in careers in Finance and as a suggestion from Philosophy SSLC Chair Soma Pirityi.

We would like to thank Hugo for joining us and volunteering his time, and Soma for his suggestion and promotion of the event among the students.
