They will row from Monterey Bay, California to Honolulu in Hawaii – a journey of 2,400 miles.

Facebook page

We have a fabulous alumni Facebook page which has all the latest photos from around campus and news from our graduates, supporters and the University.  Head over to the page and give us a Like.  **Please note, we are no longer updating the old Facebook group**

University Ties

An official University of Exeter Alumni tie is now available from our online merchandise store, priced at £15. It is a premium quality product and handmade from 100% silk. Some of the proceeds are used to enhance the student experience. We recently presented several key alumni supporters with ties as a token of our appreciation for their ongoing efforts. Two such volunteers are John Gilbert and Rod Alexander who lead our alumni golf programme. John and Rod organise a variety of golf events throughout the year for Exeter alumni and supporters.

Women on Boards: The How and The Why

Ever wondered what being on a Board is all about? What is the role of the Non-Executive Director and can it really help your career development? Don't miss your opportunity to ask these questions and more, at the Alumnae Group's reception Women on Boards: The How and The Why. On the panel will be a variety of Non-Executive Directors, who have held posts ranging from school governors to large corporations. The event, held at the prestigious One Wimpole Street in London on Thursday 8 May, will be followed by networking. It is the Group’s third Alumnae Reception; previous ones have focused on inspirational women, and women and leadership. Places are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment

Exeter Forever in France

Earlier this month, alumni in France met for two events to share Exeter memories and reunite. This was the beginning of a France Alumni Group, led by Country Contacts Matthieu Chudet, Pierre-Igor Legrand and Barbara Schudel (née Simpson), which plans to meet throughout the year for social evenings and networking. Watch this video of photos, made by Barbara, of our two recent events. To hear more about events in France, join our Facebook group.

New campaign to retain South West graduates

A new campaign to boost the number of graduates staying in Devon and Cornwall to work has been launched by the University and it’s seeking feedback from alumni employers in the region. The campaign follows the Marchmont Observatory’s local labour market research carried out last year, which highlighted that less than a third of the workforce in Exeter and the heart of Devon is graduates.

International Women's Day

To celebrate International Women's Day, the University has profiled a different inspirational woman every day during the month of March. Eight were alumnae or Honorary Graduates including Dato' Ambiga Sreenevasan, Sigrid Kaag and Hilary Mantel. Visit the website to see what inspires these amazing women and who else made the list.

Career Mentor success

In the spotlight: Sam Swadling

'In the spotlight' is a regular feature which shares the stories of some of our alumni volunteers. This month is the turn of Economics alumnus and Alumni Secretary of the Boat Club, Sam Swadling, who tells us what he’s been up to since graduating in 2011 and his continued involvement with the University’s Boat Club.

Alumni Volunteers needed in Hong Kong, China, France and Spain

We are in the process of piloting a new international volunteering opportunity for alumni. Every year we have hundreds of students travelling overseas for study abroad, work placement or Erasmus opportunities. We often receive questions from them about the area they are moving to, or advice on settling into their new city. To help these students we would like to match them with a graduate buddy in the city they are travelling to, who can offer advice prior to their arrival. We would hope the student and alumni buddy may meet up in the first few weeks to make sure the student is settling in. If this is an opportunity you are interested in please email Rachael Green, International Alumni and Development Officer on r.green@exeter.ac.uk.

Sailing to success

Exeter alumni have helped the British Sailing Team to an impressive medal haul at the ISAF World Cup event in Miami. The British team finished with 11 medals, four of which came from crews featuring former University of Exeter Sports Scholars. Hannah Diamond (Exercise & Sports Sciences, 2011) is currently ranked number one in the world in the ISAF rankings in the new Nacra 17 Class which will make its debut at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Sailing is one of ten Focus Sports at the University.

International Exeter

Thanks to the support of alumni Stephen and Jenny Harrow and Peter Cohen who generously support our Cricket Scholarships, second year student Amara Carr has just returned from Sri Lanka with the England Women’s Development Squad, while fellow Cricket Scholar Tom Abell is touring South Africa with Somerset Cricket Club. Five members of our Rugby Club were selected to represent England Students against their French counterparts and Tennis Centre Performance Manager and alumna Charlotte Wallace was selected to travel to Budapest to work with Team GB’s coaching staff

BUCS round up

We currently lie in 6th position of 149 UK institutions in the overall BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) table as we enter the crucial knockout stages in many sports. Recent highlights include our Women’s Hockey 1st team overcoming the University of Nottingham on penalty strokes after a tense 0-0 draw. They now meet Loughborough in the semi-finals. Our Snooker & Pool Club has also seen success recently by sealing victories in individual and team events

Sporting Stars

Pupils from Devon primary schools enjoyed our latest Sporting Stars event recently. This initiative allows children to participate in a variety of sports and Sport Science workshops, giving many a first taste of university life. Events are run by students in conjunction with the Sports Volunteering Scheme, supported by the University’s Annual Fund and QualiTest UK.
