Exeter graduate on rugby expert panel

Exeter alumnus and UK Sport Director of Performance Simon Timson (Education & PE 1993) has been invited to join an eminent panel of international experts to help address crucial questions about nurturing future rugby union talent.

Annual Fund announces support for 37 University projects

More than £222,000 donated by alumni and supporters is set to fund a range of projects across the University campuses. Projects range from the 'Tremough Work Placement Fund' to the 'Sports Volunteering Scheme', which offers students the opportunity to coach sport to children in local schools.

Gearing up for arctic adventure

Lynne Medlock (Business and Accounting 2011) and current student Marie Faithfull have teamed up to undertake a gruelling five-week cycle across Europe from London to the Arctic Circle in Norway. On August 10 they will set out to cycle 1,500 miles from London to the Arctic Circle in aid of Wheels for Wellbeing.

ESI opening

Environment and Sustainability Institute opens

The Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI), a £30 million environmental research institute at the University of Exeter’s Cornwall Campus was formally opened in April by more than 120 local school children. The ESI leads cutting-edge interdisciplinary research to find solutions to the problems of environmental change.
Jubilee Woods

Queen’s Diamond Jubilee commemorated with creation of Jubilee Wood

Staff and student volunteers helped to plant a range of native trees as part of the Jubilee Woods Project to create the Hoopern Valley Jubilee Wood in Exeter. The wood will be made up of over 1,000 native trees including oak, silver birch, hazel, cherry and rowan.
Diesel fuel

Bugs produce diesel on demand

A team from the University of Exeter, with support from Shell, has developed a method to make bacteria produce diesel on demand. While the technology still faces many significant commercialisation challenges, the diesel, produced by special strains of E. coli bacteria, is almost identical to conventional diesel fuel.

Greek scholarships announced at Athens alumni event

Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Steve Smith announced two new scholarships for Greek students at a networking event in Athens for the University’s alumni, offer-holders and friends. The scholarships are for postgraduate study - one within the Business School and one within Classics for 2014/15 entry.

Careers team recognised for outstanding service

The Employability and Graduate Development (EGD) team has been accredited with the matrix Standard; a nationally recognised quality mark for organisations that provide support to individuals in order to make learning and work more accessible.


BUCS update

BUCS sport update

The University of Exeter is currently sitting in 5th position of 155 institutions in the overall BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) table as we seek to match last year’s 7th place finish. Our Women's Rugby team brought home the BUCS Rugby Championship title after a thrilling final at Twickenham last month. With this and other successes already acheived Exeter is on course for another record-breaking season.
Hockey seats

Take your seats

Alumni are being offered the opportunity to leave their mark on the fantastic new hockey grandstand. We're offering personalisation of each of the 84 seats overlooking the Olympic-standard water pitch in return for a single gift of £240 or a recurring gift of £10 per month for two years to the Hockey Club.
