Hundreds of jobs are set to be created in Cornwall once three new innovative centres on the Tremough campus are opened in six months’ time. The three projects represent a collective investment of more than £50m.

University honours ‘inspirational’ alumnus
The University welcomed back one of its most successful and inspiring graduates, Les Halpin (Mathemeatical Statistics and Operational Research 1976), to receive an honorary degree. 

Diane finds paradise through geology
Cornwall Campus student Diane Paradise is celebrating her University of Exeter graduation and a new career in Africa.  Diane is preparing for a new career in copper mining in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Two Exeter alumni become published authors
Two Exeter alumni have become published authors - David Axtell with books about his childhood in the West Country and birdwatching, and David L. Cranfield with a contemporary novel about an American student studying in England.

Alumna on schools tour for Japanese awareness
An Exeter alumna who now lives in Japan is spending six months back in the UK to raise awareness and funds following the devastating earthquake and tsunami there.

Last year, the University offered trial access for alumni for a number of online academic journals. We listened to your feedback and as a result are making this access permanent.  In October we will be adding thousands more journals in a range of disciplines via JSTOR.  Read more and access journals....

We will be inviting alumni to the launch of our Bangalore office in mid November. We will also be launching the Hong Kong Alumni Group and hosting a networking event in Hong Kong at the end of November. Student show wins rave reviews at Edinburgh Festival
The Exeter University Theatre Company (EUTCO) has won rave reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for its production of Motortown. The play, which follows the journey of Danny, a soldier back from the war in Iraq, has received top awards.

Campus receives prestigious Green Flag Award
The University of Exeter’s grounds have been included among the best parks and green spaces in the country.
The University has now installed its Green Flag, a sign to visitors, staff and students that the grounds are well-maintained and well-managed, with excellent facilities.

Exeter academic recognised for excellence in teaching
A University of Exeter academic has been given the most prestigious award for excellence in higher education teaching and support for learning. Will Katene, who leads the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Physical Education course, has been awarded a National Teaching Fellowship.

So funny - students on comedy TV set
Five Exeter students have been given unique, behind-the-scenes access to a brand new BBC comedy programme. The students were winners of the Exeter-run competition Is that Funny? which invited budding comedy script-writers to put pen to paper. Their work was performed before a live audience at the University.

New MSc Taught Programme in Environment and Human Health
The Peninsula College of Medicine & Dentistry is recruiting now for a new MSc Taught Programme in Environment and Human Health commencing January 2012.  It offers flexible study options of one day per week or fortnight at the Knowledge Spa, Truro with additional flexible learning at a time to suit you.

International team to use Hubble Space Telescope to answer key astronomy questions
An international team of scientists led by the University of Exeter is aiming to answer some of the biggest questions facing astronomy today.  The team has secured a large programme of nearly 200 hours on NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope to explore the atmospheric conditions of planets outside our solar system.

Reunited documents offer slave trade insight
The missing links in a major collection of documents about the English slave trade and plantations in Jamaica have been reunited. The University of Exeter Library has been awarded two prestigious grants worth £16,500 to purchase the set of slave trade papers to complete its Gale Morant collection.

Exeter student inspired by Polar explorer ancestry
University of Exeter student Rebecca Rixon has shared the first findings of her research on the Antarctic Peninsula Ice Sheet.
A PhD Geography student, Rebecca presented her work at the International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Sciences 2011, held in Edinburgh.


 ‘Oarsome’ challenge for Exeter alumni
A team of three rowers, two of whom are Exeter alumni, are planning a 95 mile non-stop crossing of the English Channel in aid of Cancer Research and Save the Children.

Physics postgraduate competes for Team GB
Postgraduate Lizzy Brock, currently studying for a PhD in the Electromagnetic Materials group, in the Physics Department has just returned from competing for Team GB at the World Dragon Boat Racing Championship in Tampa, Florida.

Women's team triumphs at Alumni Golf Day
For the second time in three years a women's team won the 2011 Exeter Alumni Golf Day competition held at Worplesdon GC. This year's event - the sixth overall and the third to be  played at Worplesdon- saw record numbers in attendance with 75 players - spanning six decades of alumni - teeing off in the shotgun start.
