Alumni Mentors Make a Difference

The Career Mentor Scheme had another successful year in 2015/16, facilitating 430 mentoring partnerships between students and volunteer mentors. More than 80% of our mentors are alumni, giving a minimum of an hour a month to support a student through the opening stages of their career journey.

Thank you to everyone who has taken part to date – as a result of your invaluable help and advice, student participants in the scheme are statistically more likely to be in a graduate level job 6 months after graduation. Victoria Gooddy, studying Management with Marketing, was mentored by an alumnus who is now CEO of a luxury goods retail brand and has found the experience incredibly useful; ‘My mentor [introduced me to] different parts of marketing, including multichannel and social media. He is, without a doubt, a role model for me!’

Our mentors tell us that, as well as being great for personal development, they also gain a lot of personal satisfaction from supporting their mentees.

We are currently looking for new mentors to join the scheme starting in May 2017 and running through until October 2017. The expected level of contact with each student mentee is a minimum of one hour per month via email, telephone, Skype, or in person (if possible). Mentors can get involved in the UK and internationally. Full details of the Career Mentor Scheme are available on our webpage, including a detailed timeframe of upcoming schemes

If you would like to join this scheme, we would ask you to please complete the online mentor application form (which takes approximately 15 minutes to complete) as soon as possible so that we can match you with one of our waiting students.

Date: 23 January 2017
