William Davies Scholar, Dan Jackson, qualifies for the national U21 Hockey team

William Davies Scholar, Dan Jackson (Mechanical Engineering with Industrial Experience (2020), is one of three students from the University of Exeter to qualify for the national U21 Hockey team.

The William Davies Scholarship provides support for exceptional athletes by helping with things such as sporting expenses. Thanks to this scholarship, students like Dan Jackson, are able to flourish and reach their full sporting potential where they may not otherwise have been able to.

We spoke to Dan about his recent achievement of qualifying for the national U21 Hockey Team:

“This term I have been working hard to get selected for the Great Britain U21s Hockey squad. I attended a trial, trained with the existing U21 England and U23 GB teams at their training camps, and travelled to Austria with the team for the final trials.

I have recently received the news that I have been accepted onto the GB U21’s team. I will be competing alongside three Exeter students, making Exeter one of the most well represented universities in the squad. This is an amazing opportunity and I’m very excited to start training with the team.”

Dan also commented on how the support he’s received from the William Davies Scholarship has helped realise his goals: “Your generous support has enabled me to take my Hockey ambitions to the next level. Your support enabled me to travel to and from the various training camps involved in the selection trials, without the funding I would have struggled to afford this opportunity. I would like to thank you sincerely for your support and making it possible for me to continue to play Hockey at this level.”
