Students help to raise donations for the University by working as telethon callers.
The Annual Fund
The Annual Fund is the University's annual appeal which seeks the philanthropic support of its alumni and friends to invest in the University and enhance its status as a world-class institution.
Since the University started telephone fundraising in October 2002, alumni, parents of current students and other friends have donated over £1,000,000. The funds raised are making a huge difference to the students, campus and the surrounding community.
Telethon
The Development and Alumni Relations Office employs around 75 students each year as a callers for the Annual Fund telethon. In 2008/09, student callers called for over 525 hours during the course of 19 weeks, to talk to alumni and raise money for the Annual Fund.
During this time the students contacted 12,575 alumni and spoken to 6,774 of them from all over the world. After taking the time to speak to our team over 1,230 alumni generously pledged to give towards the Annual Fund.
Over the last 10 months every caller has worked really hard to achieve a pledge total so far of £144,051.58 and for this we would like to say a big thank you to all those involved.

Supporting Businesses
A big thank you also goes to our many supporting businesses who have helped us during the telethons.
Our student telephone fundraisers work hard in our call centre on weekday and Sunday evenings and on some afternoons. Although our students are paid an hourly wage, we need to maintain an energetic, fun environment in order to keep the best, most enthusiastic student callers on our callers team.
We create this fun atmosphere by offering prizes and incentives for our callers, provided by local businesses.
