Return to campus to pass on your careers advice.
Volunteering: on campus
Enjoy a nostalgic visit to campus and support one of our important student careers activities at the same time.
We run a range of student support activities across our Exeter and Cornwall campuses. Regular, popular activities include:
Practice job interviews
Help students practice their interview techniques by acting as a recruiter at a mock interview on campus. This experience is enormously beneficial for students, most of whom have had little exposure to formal interviewing.
Requirements: No particular requirements but alumni should have experience of conducting recruitment interviews and/or work in recruitment roles.
Time commitment: Full or half day either in Exeter or Cornwall.
Every term, we welcome alumni back to speak and share their career experiences with students. Your careers insights can make all the difference to students struggling to identify the right career for them or to those applying to work in your field.
Requirements: Just a passion for your chosen field and the ability to communicate this to a group (sometimes large) of students and field questions. We try to feature talks across a wide variety of professional backgrounds.
Time commitment: 1 – 2 hours to give a talk and answer questions, either in Exeter or Cornwall.
Twice a year we hold enterprise weeks for our students, focussing on entrepreneurship. If you are an entrepreneur, we would welcome your input into these two key weeks.
Requirements: A passion and understanding for entrepreneurship, and the best way in which a student might go about creating their own business.
Time commitment: 1-2 hours to give a talk and answer questions in Cornwall, either between 18-22 November 2013, or 3-14 February 2014.
University’s Community Garden
Did you know that we have our very own Community Garden on Streatham Campus? The garden was set up to further the understanding and engagement with sustainability and biodiversity in Exeter. A wide range of people meet every Wednesday afternoon at the garden. Activities range from watering, potting, cropping, and harvesting. The friendly gardening team welcome anybody to help in any capacity, from practical garden work, to popping up for a chat! We would love to welcome any alumni to help at the garden – green fingered or otherwise!
Time commitment: The group meets every Wednesday afternoon.
If you would like to discuss any of our volunteering opportunities or have ideas for other ways you might help, please get in touch with our Alumni Volunteer Manager Emma McFadyen by emailing E.McFadyen@exeter.ac.uk. We would be delighted to hear from you.
