Virtual Exhibitions > DisneymaniaDisneymaniaOf all the major motion picture companies, the Walt Disney company went furthest and fastest down the road of subsidiary merchandising of products using characters from the movies. The most ubiquitous, of course, has been the remorselessly cheerful and optimistic Mickey Mouse, perhaps the most widely recognized image in the world since his invention in 1928. Disney's move into animated feature film production, with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937, created more opportunities for the marketing of consumer products such as china and children's radios, based on characters and scenes from the movies. |
