Screen Studies South WestScreen Studies South West is a new network set up through The Bill Douglas Centre to bring together those researching film, television and the moving image in the region. The group includes academics at higher education institutions within the South West and those involved in screen heritage. We aim to establish a forum for ideas, research and co-operation and encourage scholarly interest in resources and collections like The Bill Douglas Centre and the South West Film and Television Archive. We cover the government South West region and we define Screen Studies as engagement with the theory, history, heritage and practice of moving image media. We ran a very successful open symposium at University College, Falmouth in June 2009. Two themed symposia are taking place in 2010: Animation at Arts University Bournemouth on 30th March and Radical British Screens in Bristol, organised by UWE, on 3rd September.
The first meeting of the network was held on Friday 25th April 2008 at the Centre. The minutes of the meeting are here Network Minutes25.04.08 . The second meeting was held on Tuesday 30th September and the minutes are here Network Meeting Minutes 30.09.08. The third meeting of the network took place on 4th March 2009 and the minutes are here Network Meeting Minutes 04.03.09 . The fourth meeting of the network took place on 27th January 2010 and the minutes are here Network Meeting 27.01.10 For further information on the network contact Phil Wickham
