College of Engineering, Mathematics & Physical Sciences showcase
25th February 2011, 09.00 – 16.00, Harrison Building
The Showcase provided a broad overview of the diverse research being carried out in CEMPS and who is doing it. Following a welcome by Professor David Butler, the Heads of Disciplines or their representatives talked about research in their areas:
- Professor Tim Naylor – Physics
- Professor Dragan Savic – Engineering
- Professor Keke Zhang – Mathematics
- Professor Richard Everson – Computer Science
- Professor John Coggan – Camborne School of Mines
- Dr Ian Summers – Medical Imaging
Lunch was an opportunity for networking and informal discussions about potential areas for collaboration.
Those who were interested then had a fascinating tour of the laboratories, starting in the Harrison building with visits to the new Centre for Additive Layer Manufacturing (CALM - currently being constructed) & X-AT Materials Laboratory, Malaria Diagnostic Tool, Electronics Clean Room, Structures, Materials & Concrete Laboratories, Thermodynamics & Fluids Laboratories and Microscope Suite. After a quick tea break, the tour moved to the Physics building to see the Multiphoton Imaging Laboratory, the new Graphene Centre and the Astrophysics Group’s telescope.
