The ageing brain event: a cross-disciplinary approach to dementia

Dr David Llewellyn led a workshop for academics and clinicians interested in dementia to network and develop funding proposals.

The event started by considering sources of funding for dementia research, after which there were brief talks from those already developing projects in this area:

  • Vitamin D for improving outcomes in mild cognitive impairment - Dr David Llewellyn
  • Physical activity for dementia prevention - Dr Melvyn Hillsdon
  • Respite care for dementia carers - Dr Iain Lang
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy for dementia sufferers and carers- Dr Paul Farrand
  • Advanced imaging for vascular cognitive impairment - Dr Phil Gates
  • Adipokines and dementia - Dr Katarina Kos

After tea and cake, participants formed into groups to discuss research ideas in the areas of prevention, treatment, diagnosis/assessment and management/care of dementia.
